Learning Objectives and Goals:
- The student will learn basic terminology and
environmental contamination concerns in performing aseptic techniques
procedures.
- The student will learn the uses of vertical airflow hoods, or
biological safety cabinets.
- The student will learn the components of a syringe which are
graphically illustrated and reviewed.
- The student will learn the four most widely used parenteral routes,
with a high level review of various injection types given.
- The student will be provided a broad ‘overview’ of skills needed to
perform sterile compounding.
- Learning how to avoid contamination while using a Laminar airflow hood
and various procedures that assure successful sterile product mixing
are provided.
- Examples of filling a syringe, breaking an ampoule, reconstituting a
sterile powder, injecting liquids into a plastic IV bag, introducing
liquids into a glass intravenous bottle, and many more aseptic
techniques are reviewed.
- The student will be introduced to various solutions used in Pharmacy.
Irrigation solutions, parenteral solutions, and TPNs are highlighted.
- The objective of this section is to demonstrate the preparation and
the safe handling of Antineoplastic agents used in the treatment of
cancer. Emphasis on personnel safety and safety procedures for
handling these dangerous agents are discussed.
- The objective of Stability considerations as well as information on
various types of reference material is given since parenteral products
have special stability concerns.
- The steps to performing a Parenteral Admixture Order are illustrated.
- The student will learn the units of measurement for
the Metric, Avoirdupois, and Apothecary systems.
- The student will learn the identities of a wide
range of abbreviations. Emphasis on abbreviations that has
historically been misinterpreted is discussed.
- The student will learn the eight primary Roman
Numerals with emphasis on rules for adding and subtracting. Roman
Numerals are widely used in Pharmacy.
- The student will learn the basic concepts of using
fractions, decimals and percentages in mathematic equations.
- The student will learn the two widely used methods
for Fahrenheit and Centigrade temperature conversions.
Illustrations and 'graphics in motion' will provide clearly explained
conversions.
- The Ratio Proportion section will teach the student
the relationships that are used as a means for reducing or enlarging
chemical mixtures used in pharmacy. Determining the proper amount of
solution to mix with drug active ingredients is covered.
- The student will learn the units of measurement for
drugs and expressions of quantity and concentration for drugs in drug
products. Illustrations are demonstrated and discussed for the
different methods for determining quantities of ingredients and
concentration of drugs when preparing or dispensing drug products.
- The student will learn the methods of expressing
doses and dosage regimens. The student will gain knowledge of how to
calculate the amount of drug product to dispense, or the number of
days' supply from a dosage regimen.
- The student will be able to determine the flow rate
of an IV solution when given the total volume, total time of
administration, and the drops delivered per ml by the administration
set.
- The student will be taught how to calculate powder
volume and how to use this information in reconstituting dry powders
for suspension or solution.
- The student will learn various pricing methods
which support the needs of the pharmacy as a business enterprise.
- The goal of PassAssured’s Sterile Compounding
Certification Program is to instruct the pharmacy professionals to
develop and fine tune their proficiency in the preparation of sterile
products.
- At the conclusion of this course the student will understand the
following:
• techniques involved in preparing sterile products
• USP <797> guidelines
• Quality Assurance and Quality Control Adoption
• Mathematics used in sterile compounding

Agenda:
The Study Content is internet delivered, thus program
delivery agenda is student participation dependent. The second
portion, 'hands-on', is provided at various locations throughout the
United States.

Cancellation:
A student can cancel their participation up to 15 days
prior to their scheduled 'Hands On' class with the following provisions:
A $200.00 administration fee will be charged if cancelled within 15 days prior to
approved selected 'Hands On' training course.
Within 15 days of scheduled 'hands on' training course portion, 'hands
on' portion can be rescheduled to a later date. No rescheduling fees or
charges will be assessed.

Registration Fee:
PassAssured utilizes state of the art
electronic registration and credit card fee payment. PassAssured's
secure web site offers web purchase capabilities, or if preferred, call PassAssured's main office for payment and registration of $1500.00. |
Contact Hours Approved:
28 (2.8 CEU's) Contact Hours is approved for internet
delivered content and 12 (1.2 CEU's) for the 'Hands-On' portion. A
total of 40 Contact Hours or 4.0 CEU's is awarded for successful
completion of the Aseptic Compounding Certification course. |
