Learning Objectives and Goals:
- The student will learn the units of measurement for
the Metric, Avoirdupois, and Apothecary systems.
- The student will learn the identities of a wide
range of abbreviations. Emphasis on abbreviations that has
historically been misinterpreted are discussed.
- The student will learn the eight primary Roman
Numerals, with emphasis on rules for adding and subtracting. Roman
Numerals are widely used in Pharmacy.
- The student will learn the basic concepts of using
fractions, decimals and percentages in mathematic equations.
- The student will learn the two widely used methods
for Fahrenheit and Centigrade temperature conversions. Illustrations
and 'graphics in motion' will provide clearly explained conversions.
- The Ratio Proportion section will teach the student
the relationships that are used as a means for reducing or enlarging
chemical mixtures used in pharmacy. Determining the proper amount of
solution to mix with drug active ingredients is covered.
- The student will learn the units of measurement for
drugs and expressions of quantity and concentration for drugs in drug
products. Illustrations are demonstrated and discussed for the
different methods for determining quantities of ingredients and
concentration of drugs when preparing or dispensing drug products.
- The student will learn the methods of expressing
doses and dosage regimens. The student will gain knowledge of how to
calculate the amount of drug product to dispense or the number of
days’ supply from a dosage regimen.
- The student will be able to determine the flow rate
of an IV solution when given the total volume, total time of
administration, and the drops delivered per ml by the administration
set.
- The student will be taught how to calculate powder
volume and how to use this information in reconstituting dry powders
for suspension or solution.
- The student will learn various pricing methods
which support the needs of the pharmacy as a business enterprise.
- The goal of PassAssured’s Pharmacy Math CE Program
is to reinforce methods used by pharmacy professionals to perform
calculations in Aseptic Compounding. The participant will learn
that the most complex problems may be solved with the simplest
methods.
- Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will complete
14 hours (1.4 CEUs) of continuing education credits that are approved
by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
